FAIR FOLKS AND A GOAT - A HOLIDAYS POP UP
Between now and 15 January 2013, the answer is Fair Folks Café, the Soho coffee shop and design store/salon recently opened by Aurora and Anthony Mazzei—the married couple behind the whimsical design brand Fair Folks and a Goat.
For the holidays, Fair Folks Café is hosting Fair American, an American Design Club (AmDC) pop-up shop that features member-made products, all of which are also available at the group’s web store.

Billing itself as an “undercover espresso bar,” Happy Bones Coffee & Publications was recently opened in Manhattan’s NoHo neighborhood by Kiwi clothier Luke Harwood of Stolen Girlfriends Club and contemporary artist and Florida native Jason Woodside. Fronted by Bond No. 7’s storefront, Happy Bones contains a shop for design objects, art books and magazines, while serving up sludge in the back amidst a speakeasy vibe removed from the shuffle of Broadway.

NYC UNPLUGGED
Photographer Randy Scott Slavin has taken some remarkable long exposure pictures of the luminescent trails left by passing cars. In his words:
New York City is always bright. Street lights, business marquees, light from apartments and car headlights merge to light every corner of the city streets, even on the darkest nights. It is the night after NYC was decimated by Hurricane Sandy, downtown NYC is in the midst of a power outage that has plunged it into complete darkness. I felt the call to hit the eerily dark streets and show New York as it is rarely seen. Trekking around with my tripod I was able to get the long exposures necessary to see in the dark.

Tatzu Nishi (b. 1960, Nagoya, Japan) is known internationally for his temporary works of art that transform our experience of monuments, statues, and architectural details. His installations give the public intimate access to aspects of our urban environment and at the same time radically alter our perceptions. For his first public project in the United States, Nishi has chosen to focus on the historic statue of Christopher Columbus.
For ‘Discovering Columbus‘, unveiled by the Public Art Fund this week, Nishi has enclosed the 13-foot-tall statue in a fully furnished living room. It features tables, chairs, couch, rug, a flat-screen TV, and wallpaper inspired by the artist’s memories of American pop culture.

From Apple to Taxi, greenest city:) New Taxicabs are Green, Literally
The color of the city’s new taxi for boroughs outside Manhattan was unveiled Sunday by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, and in the mayor’s eyes the hue was an “apple green.”
“We think ‘apple green’ is attractive and distinctive,” he said at a news conference at City Hall. “It’s easy on the eyes and easy to pick out from a distance in traffic.”

The NoMad Hotel. Frenc Style in NYC center.
NoMad Hotel the Andrew Zobler’s newest lifestyle hotel. Zobler, who is also responsible for the Ace Hotel across the street, was initially drawn to the distinct architecture along that section of Broadway.

Using the Beaux-Arts style facade of the newly opened NoMad Hotel as inspiration for the interior, Zobler tapped French architect Jacques Garcia to complete his vision.

The luxury component of the NoMad is the simplicity in the sophistication with a feeling of eternity.
