Paths to Pier 42 is a proposal for a series of temporary art/educational/design installations and public events along the East River Waterfront that will take place in the summer of 2013. The Lower East Side Waterfront Alliance is organizing this participatory process to increase access and create temporary public uses while areas of the waterfront from the Brooklyn Bridge to East River Park are awaiting capital improvements.

“I wanted to create a 360-degree experience around the showroom, one which starts in the simple awareness of its existence, the descension into the room, the fragrance developed by Six Scents, contemporary psychedelic artwork by Sylvia Hommert, flower design by 11x11, streaming tunes while we work and of course a 125-gallon vintage aquarium—aka the Bijules jewelry display,” she explains.

BMW Guggenheim Lab Site Officially Returned to the City of New York, Transformed into Community Park
New East Village Community Space Opened December 10
For 53 days beginning in August 2011, the BMW Guggenheim Lab—a combination think tank, public forum, and community center—operated at the site, which was improved as a result of the project. The Lab will open in Berlin in May 2012 before traveling to Mumbai. Updates from the BMW Guggenheim Lab’s journey will be posted regularly on the website, bmwguggenheimlab.org, and the official blog, Lab | Log.
First Street Green, a neighborhood volunteer group, celebrated the opening of the new East Village community space on December 10, with free public activities, including a board game and visioning exercise to generate ideas for future programming in the park and a “wishing wall” demonstrating the power of community groups and neighborhoods. The space may become a potential site for art installations and performances in the future. The BMW Guggenheim Lab’s commitment to strengthening urban communities includes permanent improvements to the once-vacant lot, including the stabilization and paving of the site, replacement of the sidewalks, and new wrought-iron fencing and gates.

The Trilby, new openning in Cooper Square Hotel
The Trilby, the clubby, loungey, somewhat mysterious new restaurant and bar in the Cooper Square Hotel, and the successor to both Faustina and Table 8, opened to the public Friday.
You’ll want to incorporate this spot as a before, after or in-between option for when you find yourself turned around in the Bowery. A place where you’ll order up the namesake cocktail (scotch, sweet vermouth and Parfait d’Amour), pair it with some Mini Short Rib Sandwichesand make yourself at home on a broken-in vintage couch for a few hours.
